From the initial observations made during the site visit through to the search for reference data and\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/senoee.com\/en\/insurance-appraisal\/\">the determination of the replacement value as new<\/a>he shares the methodology, key points of attention and professional judgements that shape his analysis when dealing with these scenarios.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Technology that is no longer available or has evolved significantly\u00a0<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is particularly the case in heavy industries such as metalworking and steel production, where certain pieces of equipment can remain in operation for several decades. Between the time they are installed and the point at which their replacement value as new needs to be reassessed, technologies may have evolved significantly sometimes to the extent that the original solutions are no longer available.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Equipment that no longer meets current standards\u00a0<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Equipment may continue to perform its intended function even though its design no longer meets current standards.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Developments in safety, HSE, consumption and regulatory requirements have progressively transformed the design of industrial machinery. Some older machines for example, open or only lightly guarded equipment may still be operating on a site, even though a new piece of equipment performing the same function today would necessarily be designed differently.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>A manufacturer or product reference that is no longer available\u00a0<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The challenge can also be much more straightforward: the manufacturer may no longer exist, may have been acquired, the product range may have been discontinued, or the specific reference may simply no longer be available on the market.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The physical equipment is still in place, but there is no longer a manufacturer\u2019s catalogue that allows its exact reference and price to be identified directly.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em>Custom-designed equipment, sometimes with limited documentation\u00a0<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finally, some pieces of equipment have never truly had a standard off-the-shelf equivalent. They were designed specifically for a particular site, process or installation, sometimes several decades ago.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the oldest cases, some of the original information may also have been lost over time: incomplete drawings, technical documentation that is difficult to retrieve, a manufacturer that no longer exists, or teams that have changed. The expert is then faced with equipment that is still fully integrated into the industrial process, but for which no readily available market reference exists.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When no reference is available, analysis takes over\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/senoee.com\/en\/insurance-appraisal-human-guided-ai-industrial-asset-valuation\/\">When dealing with old, atypical or custom-designed equipment<\/a>a Senoee expert\u2019s first instinct is not to look for a price straight away.\u00a0<strong>And for good reason: some pieces of equipment have never had a catalogue reference against which they could be compared.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The expert therefore begins by understanding the machine itself: its role in the process, what it produces or transforms, its capacity and its technical characteristics. This then leads to the key question that guides the valuation: how would this function be performed today ?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is from this on-site assessment that the relevant references can then be identified and compared in order to determine the replacement value as new.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Understand before valuing<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Manufacturer\u2019s plate, model, dimensions, capacity, technology\u2026 The site visit makes it possible to collect the available data, but above all to understand how the equipment operates.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For custom-designed equipment, this information becomes even more important. There may be no specific model or manufacturer reference to look up after the site visit. Drawings, dimensions, capacities, technical characteristics and discussions with the site teams then become the starting points for the valuation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Field experience also makes it possible to quickly identify atypical equipment that will require more in-depth research and for which it is essential to collect as much information as possible directly on site.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Identifying the right equivalent<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the technology is still available, the search may lead to a comparable piece of equipment.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the technology is no longer available, the expert focuses on its function: what solution would be used today to perform the same function ?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He looks for the solution that would today perform the same function. However, the selected equivalent must remain consistent with the existing installation: the objective is not to value a higher-performance solution or a different process configuration that the industrial operator might choose as part of a modernisation project.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>Example: The most modern solution is not always the right comparable.<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>On an older packaging line, several machines may perform separate operations that are now combined within a single piece of equipment. Using this newer integrated line as the reference would amount to valuing a process upgrade, rather than necessarily the replacement of the existing equipment.<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Cross-check the references, then challenge them<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Senoee\u2019s database, previous assessments, technical documentation, drawings, recent industrial projects, manufacturer references, renovation costs or retrofit costs: depending on the case, the expert cross-checks several sources to build a robust reference.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A value identified on another site or in another country must be assessed in light of the technology, the manufacturer, applicable standards and local conditions. It should therefore not be used automatically.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is where the expert\u2019s judgement comes into play :&nbsp;<strong>Data provides points of comparison, while field expertise determines which ones are truly relevant.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Data as the memory of expertise<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When dealing with atypical equipment, the expert does not systematically start from scratch. References from previous Senoee assessments are structured by sector, sub-sector, process and equipment type, making it possible to identify comparable cases and guide the analysis more quickly.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For experts, this data is first and foremost a starting point. A comparable machine identified and valued on another site does not automatically provide the right figure: differences in technology, manufacturer, country or technical characteristics may be enough to call that reference into question.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This accumulated body of data therefore becomes most valuable when combined with field knowledge. And in the most complex cases, the reasoning is not carried out in isolation: Senoee experts also compare their research and share their experience to refine the analysis.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When the reference is no longer available, expertise remains\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This use case above all shows why an existing value, an index or a comparable cannot always provide the answer on their own.
